Dr. Gail Weingast has been with William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut for about a quarter century by now, and that time has been good for both of them. For a good decade-and-a-half prior to that, she learned everything possible and practiced successfully wherever she could. That’s not surprising, really; she has always wanted to be the best radiologist possible. In her role as Backus Hospital’s Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging, she runs what is now considered one of the best radiology departments in the country, and Dr. Gail Weingast can take a lot of credit for that.

It has largely been the efforts of Dr. Gail Weingast that have led the transformation her department into one of the best in New England, and possibly the nation, if not the world. She became Dr. Gail Weingast MD in 1976, after studying at the Boston University School of Medicine. She completed numerous internships and residencies in Colorado and she practiced in hospitals in Colorado and New York before settling into at Backus Hospital. It is that impressive level of knowledge and experience hat she gained over the years that has allowed her to guide her department to its current status.
